Boo-hoo!

A very surprising headline from AP which actually uses the t-word without "scare" quotes!
Many in terrorists' 'next generation' dead
MADRID, Spain - They rose up quickly to take up Osama bin Laden's call for jihad, ruthless men in their 20s and 30s heralded as the next generation of global terror.

Two years later, 40 percent are dead, targets of a worldwide crackdown that claimed its biggest victory with the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al-Qaida's front man in Iraq.
So just who's in the real QUAGMIRE?

Where is your god now, Abu?

Unfortunately, as a former copy editor-in training, I can say with some certainty, that the real reason they didn't use scare quotes on "terrorists'" was that the whole line would have looked confusing:..."terrorists'" 'generation'. Wait and see if they do it again or not. :)))
