Malaysian Moderate Muslim Mahathir

International "courts" were bad ideas to start with because of issues of power, jurisdiction, sovereignty, and their easy politicization.

But this is ridiculous!

The slippery slope was nearer than anyone expected. The evil raving former premier of Malaysia wants to set up his own international court to condemn the West:

Mahathir condemns Bush, Blair as war criminals
"History should remember Blair and Bush as the killer of children or the lying prime minister and president. What Bush and Blair had done is worse than what Saddam had done," he said, referring to hanged Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Mahathir also turned his scorn on Australian Prime Minister John Howard, deriding him as the "pocket Bush of the bushlands of Australia."

Last week he unveiled plans for an unofficial war crimes tribunal to focus on victims of abuse in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, saying that the existing international court at the Hague was biased.

Mahathir has said he will also form a new war crimes commission, to be located in Kuala Lumpur, which will investigate their cases and then refer them to the tribunal if warranted.

"We should not hang Blair if the tribunal finds him guilty, but he should always carry the label 'war criminal', 'killer of children', 'liar'." Mahathir said in his speech.

Yeah, good luck with hanging Blair if you "happen" to find him "guilty!"

Of course if they could, they would.

This non-bylined piece ends with a straight face with the helpful explanation that:

The tribunal will carry no legal authority and is not backed by any government, but Mahathir has said it will ensure that offenders' wrongdoings are recorded in the history books.

And speaking of labels, this exercise continues to debase language, just as the totalitarians desire.

Mahathir, "father of Malaysia" and described simply as a "firebrand" in the AFP article, has a history of openly agitating on the side of evil and slandering the Jews.

Item 1:

Asked whether he regretted his statement that “Jews rule the world by proxy”, which caused an international furore in 2003, Mr Mahathir said he took nothing back.

Note how the media fawns over him in the same article:

Mr Mahathir cuts a slight, almost self-effacing figure. His personal manner is reserved and courteous to a fault.

Item 2:

Mahathir said, “1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews.” ...

Acknowledging weakness and division in the organisation’s ranks, Mahathir said they could at least take a common stand on the Palestinian struggle against Israel and it was time to plan a “counter-attack” against the enemies of Islam who treated Muslims with “contempt and dishonour”.

“We cannot fight them through brawn alone, we must use our brains also,” he said.

”They are already beginning to make mistakes. And they will make more mistakes. There may be windows of opportunity for us now and in the future. We must seize these opportunities.“ ...

He called on Muslims to match their studies of religion with attention to science and mathematics because ”we need guns and rockets, bombs and warplanes, tanks and warships for our defence“.

The AP reported this as calling for "nonviolence."

Item 3:

BRITISH and American diplomats walked out of a human rights conference in Malaysia today, after the country’s former prime minister called their countries terrorist states and said coalition pilots whose bombs killed Iraqi civilians were murderers.

Mr Mahathir, who ruled majority-Muslim Malaysia for 22 years before retiring in 2003, also defended his human rights record in government.

He was often criticised for detaining suspects without trial under a security law and for the imprisonment of former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Item 4:

Mahathir Mohammad: These are really war criminals. That is why we think that something has to be done against the United States.

Yvonne Ridley, Interviewer: What can you do against the United States? It’s a very big country, and it has an arsenal of weapons greater than the next collective 27 armies.

Mahathir Mohammad: Yes, there is of course, to this thing. When you do something to the United States they are going to retaliate. But the United States is not as powerful as it’s made out to be. It is, for example, a bankrupt nation. It owes the world 14 trillion dollars, and it is truly able to finance itself and the war and the supply of arms to Israel, through the money that is lent to the United States by rich countries, some of which are Muslim countries. And if you stop using the U.S. dollar...

Item 5:

He [Mahathir] said Bush’s description of America’s “war on terror” as “a struggle for civilisation” on the fifth anniversary of the attacks was flawed, as was the West’s hope that moderate Muslims would have a dominant voice.

“There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim,” he said. “We are fundamentalists in Malaysia.

Item 6:

Mahathir...remains highly respected and influential throughout the Muslim world.

When asked whether Muslim nations in the Middle East should acquire nuclear weapons, Mahathir replied, “Well, if you allow Israel to have them, why should the others not have them too?”

And he's been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which maybe doesn't mean much anymore as they've given it to the likes of Arafat and Carter...

If we had any sense, he'd be hunted down and killed like Yamamoto, as an enemy of Western civilization.

Nobody got a lawyer's opinion or a judge's permission to blast Yamamoto's unarmed transport plane out of the sky either.

Hey Mahathir, maybe I can set up an "unofficial tribunal" too!

Congratulations, you've been convicted! Just for purposes of historicity, of course (ha ha).
